The 48 minutes between Ashtami and Navami
Sandhi Puja: Light 108 Lamps
The ritual
Sandhi Puja is held at the sandhikshan, the meeting point of two lunar days: the last 24 minutes of Ashtami and the first 24 of Navami. The goddess is worshipped in her fierce form as Chamunda, 108 earthen lamps are lit and 108 lotuses offered, and the dhak plays its loudest. In the game, each second stands for one of those 48 minutes.
How to play
- Drag your finger across the brass stand to light the lamps.
- When the wind blows across a band of lamps, tap the flickering ones (red ring) before they go out.
- Tap the lotuses (or aparajita) that rise in the pond to offer them. Aim for 108 of each.
- Lamps still burning at the end score most. Play solo or pass the phone in para mode.
